My Lord is Attentive to My Cries (Psalm 34:1-4 The Message)

IMG_5324In spite of his afflictions David’s psalm is characteristically victorious, full of praise and extolling God. Each verse in this Psalm forms an acrostic of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. David sharply draws the line between God’s attention to the righteous and His response to the wicked. This is David’s boast — that God is on His side, therefore, he is not covered with shame. Instead, angels surround him and delivers him from his enemies. He is lacking in no good thing and is well provided for. His spirit is strengthened by God’s proximity — God’s attentiveness to his cries. He is even assured of physical wholeness and he will not be condemned.

David’s heart is after God’s own heart because he extols the Lord at all times. He witnesses about God’s goodness most specially when afflicted. He gives his testimony about God’s faithfulness and enjoins others to praise God continually. The following are evident in his life:

Radiance – 4,5

Peace and security – 6, 7

Provision – 9, 10

Good days – 12

Peace – 14

Answered prayers – 15, 17

Comfort, compassion – 18

Redemption – 22

Psalm 15: “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cries.”

Indeed, this is a wonderful promise to all who desire the righteousness of God to rule in their hearts and minds.
